I found a check in a wedding card that is about 8 months old. We can't cash b/c its over 6 mo old. what to do?

Its from a distant relative that could not attend the wedding.|||Personal checks have 1 year to cash. bring it to the bank. if they give you any static call the gift giver and tell them you were wanting to cash it until you found something special to spend the money on and time just got away. Ask them to re write it. But I have cashed my kids bd checks almost a year later.|||We have cashed checks that are way older than that! Go to the bank and just try to cash it if that doesn't work then contact them to let them know that you just found there check and you wanted them to know that it was never cashed and it is probably the reason there account is not balanced! They will probably be more than happy to write you a new one.|||Send a "thank you note" with an apology saying you recently found it... whether or not they want to send you a replacement is up to them. but do NOT send the check back, that is beyond rude.

It would be very rude to call and tell them to send another check, . just put it in your scrap book. lol.|||I don't know who you bank with but most of the banks in my city will cash the check within one year...you might want to double check with your bank on that one, and check with some other banks or a check cashing place to see what their policies are.|||There is nothing you can do at this point. Every bank I have gone to, they refuse to cash anything beyond 90 days as is printed on the check. Send a thank you note to the relative and explain the mistake.|||You send it back with a letter of apology. They have probably been very puzzled for months about why this one check hadn't cleared, and wanting to get their check book balanced and stop worrying about it.|||Checks usually have a 90 day period. I would contact your distant relative and let them know the error and see if he or she would send you a check. If they do not then I would shred it. Did you send them a thank you?|||I would put it in a card and drop it in the mail to them and say - so sorry - I hope we didn't mess up your accounting. They may send another one and may not.|||call them and let them know! If they are good about checking their balance, they probably were wondering why you never cashed it.
